Goli Soda was founded in 2013 by Sruti Harihara Subramanian. We were the pioneers in introducing upcycled products in the city of Chennai. By way of initiating an online store as the next step of our journey, we spread out to reach more people and hoped to gain a pan-India presence. At the same time, we began conducting educational workshops about our products and related concepts such as sustainability, reuse and upcycling. Our menstruation workshops encouraging women to switch to cloth pads
or our workshops on organic terrace gardening are particularly relevant examples in this regard.
We felt there was a void in the market where one did not have solutions to many of the environmental issues that we were experiencing. That was when Goli Soda decided to get into manufacturing products which were designed to be great alternatives to the products that were eco-unfriendly, and commonly sold and used thereby causing lasting damage to the environment. Some of our new range of products included our probiotics range of Shampoo bars, shave bars, coconut coir scrubs, etc.
We believe the journey is long and that there is a whole lot more that Goli Soda can do to make the planet a greener and cleaner place. Every aspect of our lives needs sustainable changes to reverse the harm we have done to our planet. Every customer of ours motivates us to believe that lasting, positive change is possible.
- What made you start your sustainable brand?
The journey of Goli Soda began in 2013 out of personal need. Our founder Sruti Harihara Subramanian wanted to take responsibility and switch to a more conscious lifestyle then which was not immediate or easy, and was deterred thereof by the lack of both, simple access to, and reliable knowledge of it. The city of Chennai was not equipped with the basics of such a way of living at the time and she specifically fashioned Goli Soda as a next-door shop for that reason. It struck her that if the people are willing to try a product without having to go to lengths to acquire it, she could aid in a substantial lifestyle transformation which would be of equal benefit to everyone. Thereafter, ‘access’ and ‘knowledge’ became Goli Soda’s key mantras.

Sustainability is not limited to being eco-friendly, environmentally conscious and consuming organic produce; it is a lot more than that. Being truly sustainable is about examining the entire process chain that goes into each and everything we, as consumers, buy. Goli Soda is a conscious brand that examines who we work with, where our products come from, how it is manufactured, what goes into the product, how it is packaged and even how it will be recycled or discarded.
