Freya is elegant, graceful and powerful. Her unfurled wings bristle with purpose and her tail feathers dance as she swoops in the wind. Block printed by hand, every little bird on the blanket is unique, brought to life in ice blue.

All our blanket patterns tie back to the Laila fabric, the centrepiece of the first collection. Freya from Falsterbo is one of Laila's small and quirky animal motifs, repeated in simplified colours to create an all-over design that we adore., repeated in simplified colours to create an all-over design that we adore.

How to use: Cotton mulmul is a soft, breathable fabric that is incredibly easy to care for and stays soft wash after wash. Here are a few tips to care for your ADITYA AHUJA mulmul blanket.

For ADITYA AHUJA blankets we strongly recommend hand washing.

Fill a basin with warm water and add a pH-neutral soap or laundry detergent. Mix the water and detergent, using your hands to gently agitate your item. Soak for one hour. Do not worry if colour appears in your water, this is normal. Run cool water through the item until the rinse water is no longer soapy. Squeeze or push out the water. Hang to dry or lay flat.

However, we understand that this might not always be feasible. If you choose to wash your blanket at home please try to follow the steps below, and do note that we are not liable for any mishaps!

Set machine to a normal cycle. Select cold for colours and warm for whites. Before placing items of like colours in the machine, remove anything that has Velcro, zippers or snaps to prevent the fastenings from snagging. Once the cycle is finished, remove items promptly from the washing machine. Hang to dry or lay flat if possible. If not, tumble dry on low.
With proper care our blankets should give you years of pleasure!

Meet the maker

Aditya Ahuja

Aditya Ahuja

A passion for textiles runs in Aditya Ahuja's blood. His grandfather, originally a wool buyer for Tatters field Co, Philadelphia, formed his own company manufacturing flat woven rugs in the central plains of Uttar Pradesh in 1963. His perseverance and design aesthetic led to the rejuvenation of a moribund industry and a revival of the craft of fine dhurrie weaving in India. In turn, Aditya’s father dedicated over a decade to working with karigars (craftsmen) to create intricate dhurrie rugs for the company's discerning clientele. His obstinate will and production acumen transformed the hand loom fabrication process, enabling the production of detailed patterns on incredibly large single-piece custom rugs. Alongside him, Aditya’s mother focused her efforts on the manufacture of chain stitch rugs and crewel embroidery from the hills and valleys of Kashmir. Her detail-oriented approach and Swedish aesthetic also led her to design, helping fashion some of the company’s most iconic pieces.

It is no wonder then that Aditya Ahuja’s first memories are of leaping from carpet pile to carpet pile at his grandfather’s home-furnishing showroom in Mumbai, India. Nor is it especially surprising that excursions with his family often dovetailed into design explorations – spending hours in clothing stores examining quality and fibre, talking about colour and feel, rather than trying on shirts and trousers. Naturally, Aditya joined his grandfather’s company, SHYAM AHUJA, right out of college. For over a decade, Aditya worked and learned alongside his grandfather in New York, imbibing a singularly important lesson – quality above all else in production and understated elegance and simplicity in design. While working his way up to CEO and Director of SHYAM AHUJA, he also had the good fortune to interact with some of the finest interior designers and architects in North America, allowing him to expand his burgeoning design knowledge and fine tune his own singular interior aesthetic.

His first individual venture, ADITYA AHUJA, is truly but an excuse to continue fascinating over design. His hope to showcase the beauty of Indian pattern and textile in new and exciting ways, just as his family always has.
